Victoria A. Chaban
“From my perch in San Francisco, I look at the world, and the birds that fly through it, always seeking a sense of my place in it all.” Vicki is creative at large with a particular sensitivity to the small details that coalesce into a larger pattern, place or living being. Having grown up in San Francisco, a provincial place that aspires to be so much more, she is sensitive to the urges that pull one both closer and further from what it means to be right here right now. Through painting birds she has found a way to fly above the fiction of groundedness to a place where fault lines—both real and imagined—are nothing but beautiful designs writ large. Vicki studied painting at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington and art history in London and worked for glass artist Dale Chihuly before becoming a film and video producer. In addition to her painting, Vicki currently expresses her passion for color, form and the environment through interior design work for private clients throughout the Bay Area.
