"As a teenager, I was obsessed with Katharine Hepburn. In my early 20’s, newly living in New York City, I decided to write her a letter and paint her portrait—a small watercolor. To my surprise a day or so later, the painting arrived back on my doorstep with a letter typed on her personal stationery: “Dear Anna Raff, I loved your letter, but I don’t think your caricature of me quite captures the essence. It’s all circles, and I think I’m all squares. But you’re sweet to try. I’m sending it back to you. Sincerely, Katharine Hepburn”
