"i choose josephine baker first and foremost because my grandfather always told an amusing story about her performing at a small, private dinner that he attended in the 30s. in addition to this personal story that i have always loved, i was drawn to josephine's uninhibited, bewitchingly dancing, the fact that she refused to perform for segregated audiences, and that she was a very successful spy during ww2, seducing men to reveal important secrets and then hiding those secrets in her underwear. later in life she adopted a "rainbow" of children from all over the world."
